British brand ORLA KIELY opened its first flagship store in Japan (5-7-18 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) in Omotesando, Tokyo, on August 21st. This is ORLA KIELY's fourth store worldwide, following its stores in London's Covent Garden, King's Road, and New York's Soho. The approximately 42-square-meter, one-floor store was personally designed by designer ORLA KIELY, featuring a tiled floor printed with original motifs and wooden walnut units. The modern interior evokes ORLA's home, which favors mid-century design. Items include apparel and bags from the 2015-2016 Autumn/Winter collection, as well as accessories such as wallets, stationery like pens and notebooks, and a full range of housewares, including towels and mugs. Price ranges include coats from 80,000 to 120,000 yen, dresses from 40,000 to 70,000 yen, leather bags from 40,000 to 100,000 yen, nylon bags from 10,000 to 30,000 yen, wallets from 10,000 to 40,000 yen, stationery from 1,600 to 2,900 yen, mugs from 1,200 to 1,500 yen, and towels and cushion covers from 800 to 8,000 yen.
Orla Kiely, known as the queen of prints, features graphic patterns and colors, as well as practical designs that match a variety of occasions. The 15-16 AW collection, which will be available in stores from the opening, is based on a colorful and gentle color palette of green, pink, and yellow, and features dresses and bags with new original patterns such as the initial "O" and "K" motifs and dancing human motifs, as well as dresses with detachable collars depending on the occasion.
Orla Kiley, which launched its brand in 1995, has attracted attention for having international celebrities and fashion icons such as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Alexa Chung, Keira Knightley, and Madonna as loyal customers, and is currently expanding its business to Europe, America, and Japan. In Japan, Fujii Co., Ltd., a trading company specializing in housewares, has signed an agreement for exclusive import and sales rights since the 2015-16 AW collection. Kei Hirano of Fujii Co., Ltd., who serves as the brand's director, said of the future, "Following the Omotesando store, we are also considering opening stores in Tokyo or Kyoto. We are also thinking of opening in-shops in department stores from the 2016 SS season."
