The 10th Aoyama Bread Festival will be held! The theme is bread, vegetables, and fruits, with jam tasting and wine included.

Oct 12, 2016

The Aoyama Bread Festival, bringing together specialty bakeries from across Japan, will be held at the United Nations University in Aoyama, Tokyo, on October 22nd and 23rd. The event, which was held in May, attracted a total of 50,000 visitors over two days. The theme for this 10th festival is "Bread! Fruit! Vegetable!" Returning to the idea that bread and the vegetables and fruits that adorn it are all bounty of the earth, the festival will feature a variety of breads made with natural ingredients. This time, Bread Lab has collaborated with the Farmers Market to create a limited-edition Danish pastry called "10 Kinds of Grape Flute" (1,800 yen/box), a collaboration between Ito Farm and pastry chef Yuichi Goto of Path in Yoyogi Hachiman. The bread features Path's signature croissant dough and 10 varieties of grapes, including Pione and Shine Muscat, grown at Ito Grape Farm. There will also be a tasting of jams made from seasonal vegetables and fruits. A tasting of nine different jams, each topped with a slice of bread (1,000 yen, includes coffee or chai by THE LOCAL), will feature jams such as Path's "La France and Rosé Wine Jam" and Shibukawa Iizuka Farm's "Japanese Pear and Black Pepper Jam." There will also be a wine stand where you can enjoy wine with bread and dishes from the newly opened bistro "Blanc" in Toranomon, and a "Welcome to the World of Yeast" tasting workshop where you can compare 10 types of bread made with different yeasts. Approximately 40 to 50 bakeries and stores offering bread accompaniments from across Japan will be exhibiting at the venue. Bread Lab will also be selling recommended items from bakeries across the country. In addition to the usual selection, this time around, "apple bread" and "grape bread" will also be available.
