DJ and composer Ines Melia is currently an "it" figure in the Paris fashion industry, on par with models and Instagrammers.
She's a sought-after DJ, providing music for shows and parties for renowned brands like Chanel, Isabel Marant, Chloe, and Dior. She's also been selected as a UNIQLO ambassador and continues to receive love calls from the fashion industry.
Returning from a party hosted by Hermès in Korea, Ines excitedly shared, "It was my first time visiting Korea, and everything I saw was inspiring! The atmosphere of the city is completely different from Paris, and it was a wonderful experience."
Although Ines is expanding her activities beyond Europe to Asia, she didn't set out on this path to become a DJ. "I've always been interested in art and my dream was to become an auctioneer. But when I came to Paris and actually started working, the reality was quite different to my ideal, so three years ago I decided to go down a different path. I'd always been interested in music and had been writing songs as a hobby, so I thought, 'maybe this could become a job,' and started my career without much thought. I thought, 'I'll give it a try for a year and if it doesn't work out, I'll think about it again.'"
While working as a composer at a hotel, creating music for the hotel, and also working as a DJ at a nightclub, a photographer I didn't know initially asked if he would like to take part in a project. Whether by chance or fate, from there, acquaintances connected with acquaintances, and his circle of friends expanded, and he became deeply involved in the fashion industry. With these "connections" on his side, his path as a DJ and composer was opened up.

Art and fashion have a major influence on her songwriting. For example, the song she wrote for the Chanel show was entirely inspired by Chanel, mixing piano and jazz. It was a song that embodied the image of Chanel, classic yet bold and defiant, with a feminine delicacy and strength. She draws on her rich and keen sensibilities to weave her songs, drawing on not only fashion but also art works she has seen in museums, the streets of Paris, her friends, and more.
In contrast to music that is born from fashion, there is also fashion that is born from music. Perhaps the best example is Hedi Slimane, the former creative director of Saint Laurent, who fully embraced the rock spirit. Music and fashion are always in harmony, striving for ever greater heights.
But Ines's musical talent isn't the only reason she's so beloved by the fashion industry. Shows and parties demand the production skills to bring out the brand's worldview and instantly create a unique atmosphere. "My music for the brand is only a part of that atmosphere. I compose music with the brand image, fashion, the purpose of the party, and the tastes of the attendees all in mind. The space that is created when music, fashion, and art all blend together is itself a work of art," she explains.
It's a space that transcends all genres and is completed only through installation. Those who are inside feel more like they're experiencing it than just appreciating it. Even if you can follow the show or party in real time through social media, only those who are there in person can experience it. "Experience" is a key word for luxury brands these days. Luxury brands like Hermès, Fendi, and Chanel hold their cruise collection presentations in regional or resort locations, proposing that taking the time to travel and truly experience the atmosphere is what luxury means to modern people. In an age where time- and effort-saving lifestyle tools are on the rise, they believe that taking the time to "experience" is the true essence of luxury. While it's unclear whether Inès' talent for spatial design, including music, matches the brand's approach, there's no doubt they sensed a mutually beneficial vibe and created a chemistry. Currently, he serves as a resident DJ at the legendary Paris nightclub Les Bains, and also writes and produces music for his friend's band, Situation X. "When I'm DJing, I play music freely and in my own style. I want to elevate the emotions of the audience and make them feel a sense of freedom. I want to be a DJ that doesn't disappoint the excitement before the party starts, and leaves them enjoying the lingering afterglow after it's over." Ines' music can be heard for free on Sound Cloud. "One of my dreams right now is to go to Japan for work," says Ines with a serious look in her eyes. The day when we can "experience" her music and atmosphere in Japan is sure to be a long way off.
