
Musician Janet Jackson was born on May 16, 1966, in Indiana, USA. The youngest child in the Jackson family, she appeared in a revue at the MGM Grand Las Vegas casino hotel at age seven. At age ten, she became a regular on the CBS sitcom "Good Times," and was active in show business from a young age. She debuted as a musician with her first album, "Janet Jackson," in 1982. In 1986, her third album, "Control," produced by Jam & Lewis, reached number one in the US, selling approximately 5 million copies in the US alone. Her fourth album, "Rhythm Nation 1814," released in 1989, also topped the US charts for four weeks, and the following year, her "Rhythm Nation World Tour 1990" attracted over 2 million viewers worldwide. In 1993, she resumed her acting career with the film "Poetic Justice." In 2000, she starred in the Eddie Murphy film "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps," which became a huge hit, reaching number one at the box office in the United States. The film's theme song, "Doesn't Really Matter," sung by Janet, topped the charts in the US for three consecutive weeks and has sold nearly one million copies in Japan. In 2001, at the young age of 34, she received the Award of Merit at the 28th American Music Awards, truly recognizing her as one of America's leading superstars.
Last year, she married businessman Wissam Al Mana, who is the president of Armani Exchange and a shareholder in Saks Fifth Avenue.
