Seventy Eight Percent, a bag brand created by Shai Levy, has started an event to sell their new backpack, "ESTEBAN," at the Bags & Luggage section on the first basement floor of Isetan Men's Building. The sale runs until May 27th.
"Esteban" (55,000 yen) is the latest addition to the "Back to Old School Collection," inspired by old-fashioned student bags from the West. It's designed for urban life by bicycle. It can be carried by hand and features an external pen slot on the side and a pocket on the back. It also has internal pockets for everyday items like chargers, earphones, and business cards. It also has a laptop compartment that can hold up to a 13-inch laptop. According to a sales representative, "(The brand) is committed not only to functionality and design, but also to quality. This leather from Tuscany, Italy, becomes a vintage masterpiece with use, so we hope you enjoy the way the leather changes over time." Shai Levi will be visiting the store on the 17th and 18th to discuss the brand's philosophy and coordinate outfits. During the event, new bags will be available, as well as briefcases, laptop cases, shoulder bags, wallets, and other items. Shai Levi studied product design in Jerusalem and Berlin, winning numerous design awards while still a student, including a Top 20 in the Blanc Design Award. After working in design consulting, he worked at a product development center for a high-end outdoor brand, handling everything from design to production. In 2007, he launched his own brand, "Seventy Eight Percent." The brand's unique combination of beautifully aged Italian leather and cotton canvas from Okayama and Kurashiki ensures years of use and durability.
The brand name Seventy Eight Percent comes from the design philosophy that "a product is 78% complete, but as it ages and changes over time after use, the imperfections are filled in and the product is finally 100% finished."
