Hotel Okura announced the reconstruction of the main building of its Hotel Okura Tokyo (2-10 Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo) in Toranomon, Tokyo. Operations will cease at the end of August 2015.
The building will have 38 floors above ground and 6 below ground. It maintains the traditional Japanese aesthetic that is the foundation of Hotel Okura architecture, while incorporating the latest technology. It will have approximately 550 guest rooms, with offices located in the high-rise building. In addition, approximately half of the site, or approximately 1.3 hectares, will be developed as green space, providing an urban oasis for the surrounding area. This will revitalize the area and ensure safety and security by providing a temporary evacuation site in the event of a disaster.
Construction began in September 2015. Completion of the new main building is scheduled for the end of February 2019. The new building is scheduled to open in the spring. Some facilities from the current main building will be relocated to the annex, and the hotel will continue to operate. The hotel first opened in 1962 and has served domestic and international guests for over 50 years.
