Fashion designer Sergio Tacchini was born in Italy on May 30, 1938.
As a tennis player, he excelled on clay courts, winning the Italian National Championship in 1966. That same year, he founded a tennis apparel brand. At a time when all-white attire was the norm in the tennis industry, he attracted attention by offering apparel in a wide variety of colors.
He eventually named his own brand, and in the 1970s, he provided apparel to some of the most famous tennis players. He signed a contract with legendary player John McEnroe, and his brand grew into a global apparel brand.
He then expanded into various sports, including golf, skiing, and swimming. He was the official sponsor of the Italian team at the Atlanta Olympics and the title sponsor of the Ski World Cup from 1991 to 1995. He has also expanded beyond sports, and is currently a comprehensive apparel brand operating primarily in Europe.
