To celebrate the 120th anniversary of Czech shoe brand Bata, a special edition sneaker called "Bata Tennis" (6,000 yen) will be released at Dover Street Market Ginza on April 26th. Bata tennis shoes were first manufactured in 1936 at a factory in Kolkata, India, and have sold a total of 500 million pairs worldwide. This item is made of a higher-grade canvas fabric and comes in three colors: white, indigo (not available in women's at the store), and black. Available in UK sizes 6-11 for men and 2-5 for women. The box also features a special 120th anniversary design. The sneaker will be available exclusively at five stores worldwide: Dover Street Market Ginza in London, New York, and Ginza, Colette in Paris, and The Webster in the United States.
Bata was founded in 1894 by Thomas Bata in Zlín, Czech Republic. In the 1920s and 1930s, with the advice of Le Corbusier, the company built housing, schools, and hospitals for its factory workers in Zlín, and as its business grew globally, it established "Bataville" communities in various locations. Today, the company has 27 factories and over 5,000 stores worldwide.
