Tennis player Fred Perry was born on May 18, 1909, in Stockport, England. He passed away on February 2, 1995. He began his career as a table tennis player but switched to tennis at the age of 20. He made his Wimbledon debut in 1930, finishing in the top 16. He then won his first singles title at the U.S. Championships in 1933. He won the singles title at Wimbledon the following year, achieving the remarkable feat of three consecutive Wimbledon victories. He also won the French Open in 1935, becoming the first male tennis player to achieve a "Career Grand Slam" (winning all four Grand Slam tournaments). After retiring, he turned his attention to wristbands, a favorite of many players at the time. Seeking to address the discomfort he had long complained about, he improved the material, making them lighter and softer than before. Thanks to Perry's popularity as a fashion leader during his playing days, the wristbands quickly became a hit among top players.

In 1952, Fred Perry Sportswear opened in London. With permission from Wimbledon, he printed the laurel wreath on his products, which has since become the trademark of the Fred Perry brand. Of the tennis wear the brand produced in the early days, shirts were particularly popular. He developed fitted shirts, which were revolutionary at a time when loose silhouettes were the norm.

When asked by Queen Elizabeth II about the features of his shirts at the opening ceremony of Wimbledon, Perry famously replied, "Your Majesty, this shirt fits." Today, the brand is widely supported not only as tennis wear, but also as a fashion brand.
