Swatch Group Japan will begin selling four models of the "SISTEM51" in Japan, featuring the world's first mechanical movement. A press conference commemorating the launch was held on May 29th, featuring Panzetta Girolamo and Japan women's national soccer team player Iwashimizu Azusa.
First unveiled last April, the "SISTEM51" is a 100% Swiss-made automatic (self-winding) mechanical movement made up of a total of 51 parts. It is made up of less than half the parts of a conventional mechanical watch and boasts an outstanding power reserve of up to 90 hours. In keeping with Swatch's distinctive design, the dial features six of the movement's 19 rubies, while the back allows a view of the movement's center through a transparent rotor. The four models being released this time are "System Black," representing a "black and white star map," "System Red," symbolizing the "red of ruby," "System Blue," representing the "blue Earth," and "System White," representing the "exploration of new worlds." They are priced at 16,204 yen and are available exclusively at the Swatch Boutique Ginza. Christophe Savio, President and CEO of Swatch Group Japan, who appeared at the press conference, said, "The number 51 is an important symbol for Swatch. This is a wonderful watch that combines an innovative movement with affordability and fashion. We are proud to introduce the System 51." Girolamo, dressed in a navy suit and casual, tieless outfit, wore the "System Blue," while Iwashimizu, dressed in a refreshing blue outfit coordinated by Girolamo, appeared wearing the "System White." "The mechanism of the System 51, which is joined together as a single unit around a single screw, is exactly what soccer teams use, where the formation is centered around the captain. I remember my mother using a Swatch, and the first watch I wore when I was in junior high school was a Swatch, so I have a lot of attachment to it," said Iwashimizu. Girolamo added, "I first encountered Swatch 26 years ago when it was all the rage in Italy, and I still treasure the one I bought back then. The appeal of the new System 51 is that it's easy to use and can be worn in any situation. Casual is great, but I hope you'll enjoy wearing it in a stylish way, such as with a suit."
