
Actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg was born on July 21, 1971, in London, England. Her father is singer Serge Gainsbourg, and her mother is actress Jane Birkin. She made her debut as a child actress in the 1984 film "Ember," and gained attention with her role in "Charlotte's Love" (1986), where she won the César Award for Best New Actress. She subsequently focused her career primarily on French films, winning the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Buche de Noël" (2000). Her 2009 performance in Lars von Trier's horror film "Antichrist" earned her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. However, the film itself was controversial for its extreme violence and was panned by the jury. In addition to her acting career, Gainsbourg is also active as a singer, and is produced by her father, Serge, and musician Beck. She performed in Japan in 2010. She is also a popular fashion icon, appearing in Balenciaga's 2008 Autumn/Winter campaign and producing a fragrance for the brand. She has three children and is married to actor and film director Yvan Attal. In the 2001 film "Gainsbourg's Wife," she played her husband, using their real names. A documentary film about her father, Serge, titled "No Comment by Gainsbourg," will be released in Japan on July 31st of this year. The film features monologues and unpublished interviews by Serge himself, as well as the glamorous love lives of his mother, Jane, and others.
