On March 26th, Jane Birkin held a press conference ahead of her Japan tour, "Jane Birkin sings Serge Gainsbourg "VIA JAPAN,"" to be held at Tokyo Opera City on the 28th.

Jane had visited Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, the day before on the 25th, and arrived in Tokyo on the morning of the 26th. At the press conference, she began by performing "Une Petite Fille (Girl)," a song she composed in hopes of recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, alongside pianist Nobuyuki Nakajima, trumpeter Shuichiro Sakaguchi, and percussionist Tsutomu Kurihara. This was followed by a talk session featuring photo slides from Ishinomaki. "The disaster area was a veritable nightmare, with mountains of rubble, abandoned cars, burned-out schools, and rice paddies inundated by the tide. There was no sound in the scene, but the sounds of people panicking and things burning rang through my head. You can sort through the rubble, but you can't sort through people's hearts. It's important to let people know that we haven't forgotten the victims. I've toured the US, Europe, and Australia for concerts, and I've always placed a donation box for the Children's Music Revitalization Fund. Music is like a bandage that can heal people's hearts. By holding concerts, I want to wrap the audience and the victims in a bandage of solidarity." Jane commented while sharing footage of the program recording at FM radio station Ishinomaki, mini-concerts at the Ishinomaki News Museum and Shokado Confectionery, and interactions with the Matsushima Junior High School brass band. To raise funds for the concert in Ishinomaki, Jane used the crowdfunding platform CAMPFIRE. The donation was used to cover concert production costs, press conference costs, staff travel and accommodation costs, and compensation to local staff. Jane herself participated in this project without compensation.

By the way, the bag she was carrying was, of course, an Hermès Birkin.
