Jul 31, 2013

Noritaka Tatehana, a shoe designer beloved by celebrities worldwide, will launch a new sneaker brand, "The Daughters," on July 31st, in collaboration with shoe director Yoichiro Kitadate. The brand's debut collection will feature two styles: the men's "ACTOR" (¥41,790) and the women's "STARRING" (¥49,140). The shoes are crafted from indigo leather dyed with organic indigo, a traditional Japanese technique, and baseball leather, the same material used in official baseballs. The surface features a laser-applied denim-like design. The new brand will be available at a pop-up shop currently open on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku store. Additionally, Tatehana himself will be available to take orders on August 3rd and 10th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Kitadate is a shoe director who has worked on projects such as Air Jordan and Pump Fury, and was selected as one of the "50 people who have influenced global sneaker culture." He began writing about fashion and sports for magazines such as Number and Checkmate during his university days, and later moved to Chicago to cover Michael Jordan. He began his career as a sports journalist. After returning to Japan, he founded The 6th Man in 1997 and opened numerous select shops and brands. In 2000, he collaborated with Nike to design the Air Jordan 1 Millennium model. In 2001, he launched the collaborative brand gruv with Reebok. He has also released shoes in collaboration with New Balance and manga artist Takehiko Inoue's "Real."
