The Isetan Shinjuku Men's Store held a one-night-only special party, "The Summer Pranks," on July 11th at Aoyama Laputa Garden in Tokyo's Minato Ward, featuring a "beach suit" dress code. Many customers of the store attended the event decked out in beach suits.
The party was held under the concept of "Charlie Weiss's night party, where he invited close friends and set a beach suit dress code." The event was organized by the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Store, aiming to provide a place for customers to gather and to popularize the "beach suit" and its name.
A "beach suit" refers to a style consisting of a jacket and shorts. Last season, the focus was on formal occasions, with a focus on casual styles that took the dress-up style of the suit and dressed it down. This season, the brand further expanded the concept of the "beach suit" by introducing sets of shorts and cropped pants suitable for a variety of occasions, including resort weddings and after-parties, shifting toward dressing up casual styles. This was also why the rooftop poolside was chosen as the venue for the party. When asked about his impressions of the event, a particularly eye-catching male attendee commented, "It's a different style from previous Isetan Men's events, but I'm actually really enjoying the casual atmosphere." The man, in his late 30s, wore this season's Hackett London windowpane jacket with a gingham check vest and shorts. His outfit for the day was fully coordinated at the Men's store, which he visits three to four times a month. It's clear that the event's goal was well-received by such loyal customers.
The profile of the party's host, Charlie Weiss, is shrouded in mystery, but he is a travel enthusiast who has visited many countries, been deeply impressed by their cultures and customs, and honed his sense of style. He is a "master of stylish fun" with a wide range of interests, including music, photography, and cooking.
The main event of the party was a beach style collection showcasing "beach suits" in a runway show format. The show featured "beach styles" incorporating summery items such as jackets in cool materials and colors, shorts with playful patterns, Panama hats, and sunglasses. The show was closed by Taiyo Onishi, president of Isetan Mitsukoshi, a close friend of Charlie Weiss. Dressed in a beach suit with a red accent on the chest and belt, Weiss thanked the guests for their continued patronage and praised their stylish attire. The venue also offered a variety of food, drinks, and programs "requested by Charlie Weis." Usagiya, a Japanese confectionery shop famous for its dorayaki, served "Usakouri," shaved ice topped with dorayaki bean paste and honey, accompanied by Japanese sake, "Charlie Weis's favorite." The venue also served the traditional Cognac Hennessy mixed with soda, a drink that Charlie Weis has recently become fond of. Other highlights included a brilliant bottle handling performance by flair bartender Akiko Tomita and a mini-live performance by guitarist and voice performer Saigenji, further livening up the atmosphere. The word "Pranks" in the title of this party means "harmless mischief." True to the title, which evokes the playfulness of "beach suits," the one-night-only party, filled with adult wit, ended in a glamorous atmosphere.
