"Wolfgang Tillmans: Your Body is Yours," the first large-scale solo exhibition in Western Japan by German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, will be held from July 25 to September 23 in the exhibition room on the second basement floor of the National Museum of Art, Osaka. Based in Berlin and London, Wolfgang Tillmans first gained attention in the early 1990s for his photographs capturing the everyday scenes surrounding him, becoming known through his work in magazines such as i-D and Interview. In recent years, he has published the photobook "Neue Welt" (New World), which presents his views on various global events, including political and economic issues and technological advances, by presenting a series of images depicting current events and scenes he witnessed during his travels. In 2000, he received the Turner Prize, one of the most important awards in the contemporary art world, and this year he is set to receive the Hasselblad International Photography Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in photography. This exhibition, Wolfgang Tillmans' first solo exhibition at a Japanese museum in 11 years since his last at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in 2004, will feature approximately 200 works, primarily recent and new, in an exhibition space designed by the artist himself. Featured will be photographs being shown in Japan for the first time, as well as "Book for Architects," a video installation featuring two projections that was shown at last year's Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition. All of Wolfgang Tillmans' photobooks to date will also be on display. Additionally, Wolfgang Tillmans will be giving an artist talk in person at 2:00 PM on July 25th in the auditorium on the first basement floor. The exhibition is limited to 100 people, and numbered tickets will be distributed from 10:00 AM on the day of the event.
