teamLab, a collective of ultra-technologists who have been garnering attention for their collaboration with Enoshima Aquarium, are expanding into the US. They will be exhibiting three video works at the Seattle Art Fair, which will be held at CenturyLink Field Event Center in Seattle from July 30th to August 2nd. The first is "Flowers and People - Dark," which was also exhibited at the "teamLab Dance! Art Exhibition and Learn! Future Park" held at the Miraikan, National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. The work depicts flowers as they are born, grow, bud, bloom, and eventually wither and fade. The flowers respond interactively to the viewer's actions, blooming or withering all at once.
Furthermore, based on the concept of "ultrasubjective space," the exhibition will feature two works that were originally constructed in three-dimensional space but then flattened using the logical structure of spatial perception of Japan's predecessors. "Flower and Corpse Glitch," which also appeared at "MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO" held at Roppongi Hills, is an animated picture story based on the theme of "the collision, circulation, and symbiosis of nature and civilization." It attracted attention with its production in which the surface of the animation peels away, revealing the other side of the work.
Meanwhile, in "Universe of Water Particles / Possessed Waterfall," which was also exhibited at the "Art Paris Art Fair 2015" held at the Grand Palais in Paris, the waterfall is created by creating a three-dimensional rock in a computer-generated space and then pouring water, represented as a continuum of countless water particles, onto the rock.
TeamLab has been showcasing their work in a variety of venues, including the ongoing Milan Expo and an event organized by Shiseido, and it looks like they'll be attracting attention from around the world to see what they do next.
