Iittala, a Finnish design brand developed by Fiskars Japan Co., Ltd., will release a new color for 2021, "Mug Bird Pink," from the "Iittala X mina perhonen" collection, which features a bird pattern hand-drawn by Minagawa Akira, designer of Mina Perhonen, exclusively in Japan.

In 2021, Finnish design brand Iittala will continue its collaboration with Mina Perhonen. This spring, the spring-like color "Mug Bird Pink" will be released.

Minä Perhonen was founded in 1995 by designer Akira Minagawa, who wanted to create clothes that become more appealing with the passage of time. The brand is known and loved worldwide for creating fabrics with original designs.

The brand name comes from Finnish, with “minä” meaning “me” and “perhonen” meaning “butterfly”. It symbolizes the deep connection to Nordic culture that Akira Minagawa has built since his first visit to Finland at the age of 19.
"I first visited Finland when I was 19 years old. It was winter and I went all the way to Rovaniemi, located within the Arctic Circle. One of the impressions I had was how comfortable the Finnish people were, even though it was minus 35 degrees outside. Their homes and surroundings were filled with wonderful traditional design. Since that trip about 35 years ago, Finland has become one of my favorite countries," says Akira Minagawa.

A shared design philosophy
Iittala and Minä Perhonen share the same values and design philosophy. Both brands design everyday items that can be used daily and passed down for generations.
Craftsmanship and attention to detail play an important role in the design process. Iittala is known for its deep expertise and high level of skill in glass, while minä perhonen has collaborated with many factories and artisans both in Japan and abroad to develop materials and techniques.

A collection of small everyday items
“Iittala X minä perhonen”, designed by Akira Minagawa, is a collection of small everyday items that bring lightness and happiness to everyday life, and features hand-painted bird patterns. "Birds are one of my favorite motifs to draw. Birds are very free creatures, and they seem to fly around feeling happy. A bird's wings symbolize the infinite possibilities for people," says Akira Minagawa.
