Starbucks to serve all 23 iced beverages in paper cups and strawless

Event Date:2021.04.16

Starbucks is also transitioning to a strawless style for its iced lattes and iced caramel macchiatos. This is in order to reduce single-use plastics, and from April 16th, they will be gradually adopting FSC®-certified (*1) paper cups and strawless lids for all 23 iced beverage items.

*1: Starbucks has obtained the FSC® license number, FSC® N002500.

Since February 2021, Starbucks has been offering three items - iced coffee and two types of iced tea - in paper cups and straw-free lids at all of its stores in Japan (※2).

This time, by expanding the target products to a total of 23 items, which accounts for approximately 70% of the store's standard iced beverages, it is expected that this will result in a reduction of approximately 67 million straws (※3) and the same number of plastic cups (approximately 67 million cups / ※3) per year. *2: Excluding some small stores. *3: Calculated based on the projected annual number of applicable products using paper cups and strawless lids, based on products scheduled to be switched over from April 16th.

■ Products offered with strawless lids and paper cups (some planned, transition in progress)
Switched over in February 2021: Iced coffee/Iced tea/All hot beverages
Starting April 16th: In addition to the above beverages, iced espresso beverages such as Starbucks Latte and Caramel Macchiato, Iced Chai Tea Latte, Iced Cocoa, Iced Milk, Kids' Milk, and Kids' Cocoa
