Graphic artist Geoff McFetridge was responsible for the graphic design of Spike Jonze's latest film, Her, his first in four years. Set in Los Angeles, the film tells the story of an impossible love between protagonist Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) and Samantha (voiced by Scarlett Johansson), a cutting-edge AI (artificial intelligence) operating system. The lonely Theodore installs the Samantha operating system on his mobile device and carries it around with him. Set in the not-too-distant future, the film depicts the universal theme of love and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 86th Academy Awards. Geoff McFetridge designed the interface of the mobile device, which is an important connection between Theodore and Samantha, as well as computer devices and the Los Angeles subway map. The graphics that appear throughout the film are also noteworthy.
McFetridge was also responsible for the title sequence and visual imagery of Spike Jonze's 2009 film "Where the Wild Things Are." He has also worked on campaigns for Pepsi and designed sneakers for Nike, and last year he held a solo exhibition in Japan that was well received.
"Her" will be released in theaters nationwide on June 28th, including Shinjuku Piccadilly.
