Musician Yukihiro Takahashi was born on June 6, 1952, in Tokyo. He joined the Sadistic Mika Band as a drummer in 1972 and remained with the band until its disbandment in 1974. After the band's disbandment, he played with the Sadistics. In 1978, he made his solo debut under the name "Takahashi Yukihiro" with the album "Salava!". That same year, at the invitation of Haruomi Hosono, he formed Yellow Magic Orchestra (Y.M.O.) with Ryuichi Sakamoto. Y.M.O. had a profound impact, linking not only domestic and international music but also all aspects of art and culture. One of their signature songs, "Ride On," was written by Takahashi. He also served as the group's main vocalist in addition to drummer. Y.M.O. disbanded in December 1983. Since then, he has focused on his solo career, releasing 21 albums up to 2006's "BLUE MOON BLUE." In addition to his solo work, he also performs as a member of the unit Beatniks with Moonriders' Keiichi Suzuki. In 2001, he formed SKETCH SHOW with Haruomi Hosono, releasing two albums and one EP. He later performed irregularly under various names, including HASYMO, with Ryuichi Sakamoto joining, and YMO, which he reformed.

In addition to his work as a musician, he has also had a long career as a fashion designer, designing his own fashion brands such as "Brother," "Bricks," and "YUKIHIRO TAKAHASHI COLLECTION." His older sister is Mie Ito, president of the fashion PR company Wag and founder of Effap Japon, a training school for press attachés.
