Where are you heading over the New Year holidays? After your first visit to a shrine, you'll want to enjoy some shopping at a popular spot! Here, we've picked out some new landmarks and popular gourmet restaurants (new to Japan, new formats) that opened in and around Tokyo in 2016. Use this as inspiration for your next outing!

"Nakameguro Koukashita" is finally open! A new facility spanning approximately 700 meters, featuring a lineup of popular stores, including Tsutaya Bookstore

A new commercial facility, "Nakameguro Koukashita," has opened beneath the elevated tracks around Nakameguro Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line and Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. In addition to Starbucks Coffee and Tsutaya Bookstore, it's lined with 28 popular shops. One shop attracting particular attention is PAVILION, a contemporary food and liquor store produced by Masamichi Toyama. It is a romantic space with the themes of "LOVE" and "ART," and at lunchtime you can enjoy PAVILION's special three-tiered bento box, and they also sell koppepan (rolled bread) and curry at the takeout stand. In the evening, you can enjoy rare meat and oven-grilled seasonal vegetables along with sake and wine.

■Japan's largest "T-SITE" opens in the birthplace of TSUTAYA - a place you'll "want to visit every day"! Offering digital services and a floor perfect for moms and kids, T-SITE Hirakata has opened at the south exit of Hirakatashi Station in Osaka, on the former site of Kintetsu Department Store. Centered around TSUTAYA and Tsutaya Bookstore, the mall is lined with 43 shops selling lifestyle goods such as food, kids' and beauty. The facility itself is open from 7am until 1am. The fourth floor, the lifestyle and beauty floor, is home to @cosme and hair S.COEUR×Cu, where you can receive hair care, head therapy and nail care, offering a lineup that women will love.

Tokyu Plaza Ginza, which opened on the corner of Ginza's Sukiyabashi intersection, is home to a large collection of gourmet shops on the second basement floor and on the 10th and 11th floors. Caviar House & Prunier/Sandwich House are opening in Japan for the first time, and Handelsbergen, where you can enjoy freshly made ice cream, is opening its first Tokyo store following Kyoto. The top 11th floor will house Apollo, a modern Greek restaurant making its debut from Sydney, Australia, and Shimogamo Saryo, a long-established traditional Japanese restaurant from Kyoto. The shopping area will also feature the first flagship stores in Japan for HUNTER and GLOBR-TROTTER, offering a selection of rare brands.

Shinjuku's new landmark, NEWoMan, opens on March 25th! Introducing recommended shops opening in the area for the first time, by floor.

NEWoMan, a new landmark at Shinjuku's South Exit, aims to offer a new lifestyle for "adult women seeking high-quality, authentic items" through products and experiences never before seen in Shinjuku. Its tenants include apparel stores like ISABEL MARANT ETOILE and CABaN, a brand born from a beach lounge in Hayama. New additions include TORAYA CAFE・AN STAND, a cafe run by the long-established Japanese confectionery shop Toraya, and 800°DEGREESNEAPOLITAN PIZZERIA, a popular pizza restaurant from LA. MARINE&WALK YOKOHAMA, the new commercial facility in Yokohama Minato Mirai, is finally opening. A look at the stores that will be occupying it, including Fred Segal!

MARINE&WALK YOKOHAMA, which opened in the Shinko district of Yokohama's Minato Mirai 21, is home to 24 stores, including stores opening for the first time in Yokohama and the Kanto region, as well as new business types. In addition to stores by popular Portland donut shop CAMDEN'S BLUE ☆ DONUTS and California-style shop COMMUNITY MILL, the facility will also feature NEIGHBORHOOD, opening its first store in Yokohama, and the second Japanese store of the British retailer COS.

Opening in front of Nagoya Station on the 9th! Dai Nagoya Building offers a wide variety of food, including Isetan House, Nagoya rolls, and Nagoya cuisine

Isetan House, developed by Mitsukoshi Isetan HD, will open in Dai Nagoya Building, a commercial facility in front of Nagoya Station that is home to a total of 74 stores. In addition to a fashion select store that condenses the essence of Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, focusing on women's clothing from the independent edit shops "Re-Style" and "Ready for the Weekend," as well as cosmetics, men's clothing, and miscellaneous goods, projects that have previously been developed as pop-ups at the Shinjuku Main Store, such as "nippoppin" (basement) and "Isetan Tartan" (2nd floor), which brings together Isetan check items, will be launched as permanent sales areas for the first time.
