An event to experience Portland's food and healthy lifestyle will be held in Yokohama!

Apr 21, 2016

From May 13th to 15th, the Yokohama Bay Quarter shopping mall at the east exit of Yokohama Station will be hosting the "Second Portland Festa in Yokohama Bay Quarter," an event where visitors can experience the charms of Portland.

This will be the second time the event has been held, following last year's. This year's concept is "Healthy Park, Healthy Portland!" and the event will introduce the rich food culture and health-conscious lifestyle of Portland, a city renowned for its foodie culture, including craft beer, third-wave coffee, and organic cuisine.

On the first day, a panel discussion will be held with three women active in various fields, with the keywords "Portland," "food," and "healthy living." The event will consist of four parts. Part 1 (1:30 PM to 2 PM) will feature "The Relationship between Athletes and Diet" by professional figure skater and figure skating commentator Junko Yaginuma. Part 2 (2:00 PM to 2:30 PM) will feature "Portland's Rich Food and the Connection with the Community" by chef Naoko Tamura. Part 3 (2:30 PM to 3:00 PM) will feature "Portlanders' Diet and Healthy Living" by interior designer Megumi Uehara. Part 4 (3:15 PM to 4:15 PM) will feature a discussion on "Creating from Food, Body, and Lifestyle" with the three women and Yokohama Bay Quarter representative Kazuhiko Takeuchi.

In the outdoor plaza, a participatory yoga session will be held, inspired by the atmosphere of Portland, where mornings and after-work hours are valued. The instructor will be Go Sato, a yoga instructor active at yoga events nationwide. The event will be split into two sessions: "Portland Yoga: A Rewarding Suntime Under the Blue Sky" (11:00 AM to 12:00 PM) and "Yoga to Experience Portland's Slow Life" (4:00 PM to 5:00 PM).

On the second and third days, a "Food Park" will be held featuring food trucks offering Portland-style cuisine, including craft beer, original hamburgers made with Yoshida sauce, and coffee brewed in coffee filters by Able Brewing, a joint venture with Portland coffee shop Coava Coffee Roasters. There will also be a pop-up store selling sportswear from Portland outdoor brand Columbia, selling exclusive items exclusive to the event.

Inspired by the Portland lifestyle where music and dance are deeply rooted in everyday life, there will be live music performances such as "Bucket Drummers" and "Cello Performance by a Shoe Shine Craftsman." Walk-in events, such as a street dance class for kids, will also be available. There will also be a special "Bay Quarter Quiz Rally" where you can answer questions about Yokohama Bay Quarter and win Portland-related prizes, and the "Kamome Marche," which is held every fourth Saturday of the month at Yokohama Bay Quarter, will be held for two consecutive days.
