VACANT, a free space in Harajuku, will be hosting "NORWEGIAN OUTLET," an exhibition showcasing Norwegian art, design, film, fashion, and music, from the 13th through September 26th.
Oslo-based artist Bendik Kaltenborn and designer Espen Friberg, a graduate of the Oslo National Academy of Arts, will be visiting Japan. They will be showcasing new works created specifically for this exhibition, along with the extensive archives of their respective comic artist collectives, Dongery, and design team, Yokoland.
Also, up-and-coming film director Joachim Trier's work, "Oslo, August 31st," which depicts a young man about to be released from a drug rehabilitation facility, will be screened for the first time in Japan. This is the director's second feature film, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival and was a huge hit in his home country of Norway.
A pop-up shop will also be set up, bringing together products that are rare in Japan, such as popular Norwegian art books, music labels, and fashion brands. The store carries a wide range of publications, including HAIK, a unisex clothing brand formed by three designers, METRONOMICON AUDIO, an Oslo-based indie music label, Plastic Strip, which releases rare recordings of Nordic music such as jazz, soul, and early electronic music, Smalltown Supersound, a music label based in Oslo, Livid Jeans, a handmade denim brand based in Trondheim, Norwegian Rain, a rainwear brand from Bergen, Deep Search, a handmade shoe brand based in Oslo, NSEW, a label that publishes postcards and other items, SMUG, a fashion art magazine, Flamme Forlag, and PERSONAE, a fashion and culture magazine.
