"NORWEGIAN ICONS," an exhibition and sale of Norwegian vintage furniture, will open at Hillside Forum & Gallery in Daikanyama on June 21st.
The exhibition was launched by Hugren and Blomqvist, Scandinavia's oldest art dealer, which first handled the work of painter Edvard Munch, with the aim of redistributing and redistributing Norwegian design, which has been declining in popularity, both domestically and internationally.
The exhibition brings together Norwegian design icons from 1940 to 1975, a period when innovative furniture and products were created, and introduces the designers who played an important role in the history of design. The exhibition will feature approximately 100 pieces of vintage furniture, interior items, art, and reproductions of classic pieces.
A 240-page catalog has been created with the help of Mats Linder, author of "Norwegian Design Furniture 1940-1975." A new Japanese catalogue has also been produced for the Tokyo exhibition. The first exhibition, held in Oslo in January this year, attracted over 2,000 visitors to the opening and over 7,000 during the exhibition period. The exhibition will also travel to New York in October.
To coincide with the event, a pop-up shop showcasing coffee from FUGLEN, a long-established Oslo cafe with an overall concept based on Norwegian vintage design, will open exclusively at the Isetan Shinjuku store. In addition, a fair is planned at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace to introduce popular Norwegian menus and sell directly imported food.
