[PR] Night bar hopping in Ginza. 10 groups (20 people) invited to the gourmet event "Ginza Gai Bar 2015" & experience report

Nov 1, 2015

The gourmet event "Ginza Gai Bar 2015" will be held in Tokyo's Ginza area for four days only, from November 16th to 19th. This time, two female editors, A, who usually specializes in exploring restaurants around Omotesando, and B, who enjoys drinking in the Shinjuku area, decided to get a sneak peek at the Ginza Gai Bar food and drink hopping. They visited three restaurants in Ginza's neon-lit nightlife! Here's their report.

Before meeting up at Ginza Station...
We purchased a set of three tickets (¥3,500 including tax) for two people using the "Ginza Gai Bar" app, which allowed us to enjoy one dish and one drink from each of the three participating restaurants. After meeting up at Ginza Station, we immediately searched for the first restaurant on the app. The app displayed restaurant information and a map to guide us to the restaurant.

First up, enjoy authentic wood-fired pizza at your first stop
Following the app's directions, we arrived safely at the first restaurant, Cucina Napoletana Ippolito, with its striking blue-tiled wood-fired oven. After being shown to our seat and showing the ticket screen on the app to the staff, we were told we could choose one of four dishes from the event's limited-time menu: pizza margherita, zeppolini with fresh seaweed, olives, or Italian prosciutto, along with a drink. Without hesitation, we ordered the restaurant's signature pizza margherita, prosciutto, and wine for two. While we were enjoying the wine and prosciutto, cheese clattered from the wood-fired oven to our table. The chewy texture of the dough and the balance of cheese and tomato were excellent. Apparently, the dough is made from scratch using a recipe certified by the Neapolitan Pizza Association. Being able to enjoy authentic flavors at this event was a real bargain.

Our second stop was a bar on the top floor where we could relax and enjoy the night view.
After enjoying authentic pizza, we followed the app's directions to AURUM, a bar on the top floor of the Swarovski Ginza flagship store in Ginza 8-chome. Our expectations were high as we gazed upon the luxurious interior. Upon arriving safely and being shown inside, our eyes were immediately drawn to the open space offering a panoramic view of Ginza and the large chandelier lavishly decorated with Swarovski crystals. As with the first stop, we presented the app to the waiter and ordered roast beef, salmon carpaccio, and a cocktail from the event-exclusive menu of 10 items. Apparently, roast beef is the bar's most popular dish. At night, we could see the illuminated National Diet Building along with the Ginza night view from the window. It was truly luxurious to be able to enjoy both delicious food and the night view. The restaurant is always fully booked, and the staff member said that Christmas reservations are already filling up.

Our final stop is a Spanish bar that's open until late at night!
For our last stop, we chose BAR de ESPANA Pero, a Spanish bar that serves a variety of small dishes. Since this was our third stop, we chose this place for a lighter meal. The exterior, which makes you feel like you're in Spain, doubles the fun. This time, we chose olives and the tapas of the day, marinated sardines, from the event-exclusive menu, which includes olives, tapas of the day, Spanish omelette, and prosciutto. For drinks, we chose cava, a Spanish alcoholic drink, to evoke the authentic atmosphere. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff made us feel very comfortable.

From among the many restaurants in Ginza, we ate at three famous restaurants, and all of this for just 3,500 yen (tax included) was a real bargain. The app guided me through the unfamiliar Ginza alleys, allowing me to move around smoothly. One of the joys of this event is being able to explore the streets of Ginza while feeling a little tipsy on a long, pleasant autumn night.
