Since Alessandro Michele took over as Creative Director, Gucci has been deeply pursuing the fusion of heritage and contemporary design as its brand spirit, and has launched a new creative digital project, "#GucciGram."
This project, conducted through Instagram users with a large following around the world, focuses on "GG Blooms" and "GG Kaleido," which are reimagined versions of Gucci's iconic GG pattern, incorporating floral and geometric motifs. These two patterns have been reinterpreted by online talent, illustrators, and image makers to create new artworks.
Inspired by the two prints, "GG Blooms" and "GG Kaleido," each artist has expressed their own vision using their own unique techniques and style. The resulting provocative and entertaining works include works incorporating famous paintings by renowned artists, cartoon characters, and surrealist animations.
Participants, both professional and amateur, ranged from well-known artists such as Karen Hollomon, who held a solo exhibition at Colette in Paris, and Noah Karina, whose new book, "Cabin Porn," was a New York Times bestseller, to young people like 19-year-old American student Chris Leras.
Gucci has also launched a special website (gucci.com/guccigram) to showcase the artworks. The site features reviews of the works by various commentators, including an introduction by Brooklyn-based technology and culture writer Kyle Chayka. Works can also be viewed on Instagram using the hashtag "#GucciGram."
