"Isetan JAPAN SENSES" (hereafter referred to as "Japan Senses") will be held on each floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building and Men's Building from October 15th to 28th.
JAPAN SENSES is a campaign that draws renewed attention to the splendor of Japanese traditions and artisanal techniques. Mitsukoshi Isetan has been running the campaign since 2011 with the goal of "revitalizing Japan."
This year's theme, now in its fourth year, is "compassion and kindness." The store's buyers selected items with the hope that visitors will be able to appreciate Japanese virtues and experience the warmth of the makers through encounters that are alive with tradition.
BATONER knitwear is sure to be a hit this coming season. BATONER, a 60-year-old knitwear and cut factory in Yamagata Prefecture, believes it is their mission to pass on the spirit and techniques of Japanese craftsmanship to future generations. The brand name "BATONER" is a personal version of the word "baton" (to inherit). The technique they use is "shaped knitting," which cannot be mass-produced. Highly skilled artisans use linking machines to stitch each piece together, resulting in a three-dimensional, comfortable knitwear. Items include a 100% wool cardigan (¥21,000) and a 70% wool/30% cashmere cardigan (¥37,000). If you're looking for something to wear to the office, we recommend a high-quality tie from Franco Spada (¥20,000). This item, which combines exceptional comfort and a luxurious appearance, was carefully crafted using carefully selected fabrics and stitching in Tango, Kyoto, using one of the few remaining hand looms, taking more than six months to weave. Using the finest silk threads and crafted by skilled artisans, it not only has a rich texture and a refined luster, but also features a 168 denier warp and 630 denier weft, compared to an 84 denier warp and 378 denier weft thread used on an automatic weave, with a handwoven finish. Jeans lovers should also check out the highly anticipated black denim, the first of its kind from Denham, a brand whose entire line is washed and processed in Japan. Denham fans will know that Denham's core yarn (cotton on the outside and polyester on the inside) allows the color of the stitching to develop an exquisite vintage look with daily wear. Each pair takes at least 45 days to wash, and the triple layered whiskers make this a truly special piece. Wear it for a long time to develop a unique, personal look.
