H&M will release a capsule collection by Eddy Anemian, winner of the H&M Design Award 2014, on October 23rd. In Japan, the collection will be available at H&M Shibuya.
The collection is inspired by Tilda Swinton, who starred in the film "I Am Love" (2009), and French painter Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres. Iconic pieces include long skirts and jackets made from floral upholstery fabrics, cut into strips and reconstructed.
The lineup also includes a white skirt with layered ruffles, a white jumpsuit with floral bows at the armholes, and a black top made from heavy twill.
■ Ahead of the release, we conducted an email interview with Hedi Anemion.
--What do you think was appreciated about the H&M Design Award 2014?
Probably because it had a couture spirit. My collection was the most craftsmanship-rich of the eight semi-finalists, which made it somewhat difficult to produce ready-to-wear. On the other hand, H&M was looking for a new direction for their new collaboration. I think it was a good match for both parties.
--What impact did winning have on you?
Winning the award has made many people interested in my work, and they continue to support me. This has given me confidence for my next collection and a large social media following that could potentially become my customers in the future.
--What was the experience of creating a collection with H&M?
I felt a lot of responsibility, but the support of the H&M design and press teams helped me to not feel any pressure. I learned a lot by seeing the manufacturing and production process firsthand. The design team respected my designs and techniques, and we were able to have many discussions to ensure that each sample was perfect.
--How did you feel when you saw the finished collection?
I was so surprised and satisfied when I saw the samples hanging on the racks, which were exactly like my original collection. I am so excited to see them become reality and see them in stores. I hope that women will wear this collection in a powerful, confident, and glamorous way.
--Are there any designers or creators that you respect?
I love Raf Simons and Nicolas Ghesquiere. I think their brilliant careers are amazing, and they are role models for many fashion students.
--Tell us about your upcoming plans?
For the time being, I will be interning at Dior's studio. After working for a Parisian fashion house for a few years, I would like to return with a new project within the next five years. I hope to one day show in Paris during Haute Couture Fashion Week, and I will work hard to achieve this.
