During the "JAPAN SENSES" event, held at the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building and Men's Building from October 15th to 28th, approximately 50 types of Ken Okuyama EYES eyeglass frames will be available at the eyewear salon on the 7th floor of the main building. While the brand normally stocks 10 to 15 different types of eyeglasses, this is the only opportunity to see such a wide selection all in one place. The designer is an industrial designer who has worked on Ferrari, Maserati, the Akita Shinkansen, the Hokuriku Shinkansen, and the SL Ginga. The eyeglasses are designed based on ergonomic principles, ensuring a comfortable fit even without adjustment. While mass-produced eyeglasses are cast (molded by pouring the material into a mold), Ken Okuyama EYES frames are shaped using a high-pressure press, which takes several times longer and more time than other methods. This allows for unparalleled comfort and strength.
The most expensive item in this selection is the KO-210 model (93,000 yen), made in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, with a duralumin front hand-polished by artisans in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture. The temples all have a hairline finish, which prevents scratches on the polished surface.
The KO-303 (83,000 yen) features a voluminous front with beautiful three-dimensional details, offering a glimpse of the master craftsmanship of Sabae artisans. Its high-precision form makes it seem as though the front and temples are made of different materials.
The KO-209 model (83,000 yen) features resin temples, but its slender design makes the entire frame light and comfortable to wear, creating a graceful, curved silhouette.
The KO-209 model (83,000 yen) is designed with a "truss shape" inspired by the structure of buildings, and is strong despite being a two-point frame. The cutout shape of the top of the bridge and end piece is likely to bring out the wearer's individuality even more.
Each model comes in a wide range of colors, with around 7 to 8 available, so once you find a design you like, take your time trying on all the colors and enjoy the time it takes to "choose your favorite pair."
