"Series: Tokyo: How the City Shined," which traces the footsteps of people who have had a profound impact on the development of Tokyo's towns and streets, will begin airing on NHK BS Premium on October 8th. It will air every weekday from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

The first episode, "Ginza Namiki-dori," features Choichiro Motoyama, chairman of Sun Motoyama, an importer and retailer of imported fashion and interior goods. Motoyama, now 92, was born in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, as the third generation owner of a high-end knitwear wholesaler founded by his grandfather. While serving in World War II, he was deeply impressed by the fine Western goods he saw in the Tianxin Concession in China. After his return from the war, he realized his dream of "selling foreign culture" in front of Yurakucho Station. He founded Sun Motoyama in 1955 in a rented two-story store on the opposite side of Yurakucho Station. He moved to Hibiya in 1957 and opened a store on Miyuki-dori in Ginza around 1959. Since then, it has continued to introduce top European brands such as Hermes and Gucci to Japan one after another.

The second installment, "Aoyama Street," will feature the late Ishizu Kensuke, founder of the brand "VAN," and the third installment, "Roppongi," will feature the late Kawazoe Kajiko, owner of the Italian restaurant "Chianti."
