On the morning of October 19th, as the store opened, designer Keita Maruyama was seen politely welcoming customers at the main entrance on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku store's main building, mingling with the company's employees.
The reason for this is that to commemorate the limited-time opening of the "KEITA MATUYAMA 20th Anniversary Museum 'Maruyama Landscape'" on Stage #1 on the first floor of the main building from October 15th to 21st, Maruyama will be serving as "Store Manager for the Day" that day. Maruyama politely bowed to each customer who flooded in as soon as the store opened. He smiled when fans spoke to him, and even engaged in conversation.
Of course, that's not all his work as "Store Manager for the Day" ended. He walked around the store every minute until closing time, promoting products, handing out packages to customers, and even posing for commemorative photos in between. Immediately after the store opened, he headed to the basement food floor to promote the Keita Maruyama collaboration: Kyoto Shimogamo Saryo bento box, Suzukake dorayaki (a type of pancake), and Tsuruya Yoshinobu fresh confections. Standing before the two-tiered bento box, which he says is a collaboration between Keita Maruyama and the brand, and which is distinctively Keita-esque thanks to its attention to seasonality and the colors of the ingredients, he exclaimed confidently, "The appearance and color are perfect. I hope many people will enjoy it." The Suzukake dorayaki is stamped with an original branding stamp featuring Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms, a signature Keita design. The three Tsuruya Yoshinobu fresh confections also feature peony and Fuji motifs. Then, at the rooftop lunch party, which began at noon, he greeted fans, who were decked out in outfits from Keita Maruyama's past collections, saying, "I'm truly happy to be able to host such a wonderful event at my favorite department store." When it came time for him to lead the toast, he muttered, "It feels like I'm toasting myself," and then, as if to hide his embarrassment, raised his glass loudly and said, "I'd like to toast to everyone's 20th anniversary."
