An open-reel ensemble appears at the Issey Miyake show: an innovative fusion of music, art, and fashion

Mar 4, 2013

On March 1, ISSEY MIYAKE presented its 2013-14 Fall/Winter collection at Paris Fashion Week. It was held in a special tent in the main venue, the Jardin des Tuileries. Since the 2012-13 Fall/Winter collection, the show's music has been composed by Open Reel Ensemble members Ei Wada, Kimitoshi Sato, Yu Yoshida, Takami Namba, and Tadashi Yoshida. This time, all members appeared to liven up the show. Open Reel Ensemble is a musical project that combines old-fashioned reel-to-reel magnetic recorders with modern digital equipment. Since its launch in 2009, its unique style has garnered acclaim in the art and music worlds. A book exploring their work, "En-Cyclepedia," will be released on March 12. The set includes conversations with Otomo Yoshihide, Ukawa Naohiro, Kikuchi Naruyoshi, zAk, Takagi Masakatsu, and others, as well as stories behind the band's formation and playing techniques, and also includes a documentary of the new song "Cyclatrous" and a live DVD.
