Soz, an art toy retailer, opens a new restaurant complex

Mar 4, 2013

SOZ Laboratory, a new retail store for the art block brand SOZ, opened on March 4th at 3-21-4 Fukae Minami, Higashinari-ku, Osaka. The new store is housed in a renovated old Japanese house. The first floor houses a cafe and bar, while the second floor houses a shop, showroom, gallery, and office. The interior is unified in the brand's signature white color, and what's particularly unusual is the custom-made white tatami mats on the second floor. The second floor sells not only the brand's own products but also miscellaneous goods from other companies. The flagship product, Carpenter Block Mini, has been renamed SOZ Elements and its packaging has been redesigned. While previously marketed as an intellectual toy for children and adults, it is now geared toward adults, with a target age of 15 and older. Carpenter Blocks are part of the permanent collection of the Louvre Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, attracting attention overseas.

The company previously had a directly managed store in Namba Parks, a fashion building in Osaka City, but it closed in August 2011, much to the regret of many. Anticipation is high for the opening of this new directly managed store, the first in a year and a half. They also plan to use this space to hold events in the future.
