"Gentle Handkerchiefs" Exhibition: Created by Designers and Children Affected by the Tohoku Disaster

Mar 5, 2013

The "Gentle Handkerchief Exhibition Part 2" is currently touring the country. Based on drawings by 232 children from four elementary schools in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima, 385 members of the Japan Graphic Association (JAFDA) have designed, exhibited, and sold handkerchiefs.
The completed handkerchiefs are given to the children who drew them, and the proceeds from sales are donated to each elementary school. This exhibition is the second installment of a 2011 project to support reconstruction efforts in the Tohoku region, where handkerchiefs designed by JAGDA members were exhibited and sold, with the proceeds donated to 7,000 handkerchiefs to children in the Tohoku region.
The exhibition is currently running at the Nara Prefectural Museum of Art through March 20 as a related event to the "Tanaka Ikko: The World of Design Exhibition: 10 Years After His Death." The exhibition will continue nationwide through early June, opening at Isetan Shinjuku on March 6 and Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin on March 9.

Handkerchiefs cost 1,200 yen each, of which 500 yen will be donated to each elementary school as charity. They will be on sale at each venue and can also be pre-ordered from JAGDA's special website.
