On March 17th, Conny Groenewegen presented its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Shibuya Hikarie. The designer is Dutch designer Conny Groenewegen. The theme was "Primary Explorer."
The show began with electronic ambient music playing in the background. The first look was a black, strapless mini dress featuring a jagged pattern made from textured compressed wool knit. The skirt flared out at the waist like a bustle, and the hem was accented with organza. This was followed by a series combining knitwear with textured, textured scar patterns reminiscent of African ethnic scars, and other floating fabrics.
The background music changed in the middle of the show, and the color palette shifted from the monochromatic black of the early part to snow-like white and light gray. Also in the middle of the show, fabrics of different thicknesses arranged in a checkerboard pattern began to appear, creating a three-dimensional effect. These were used on straight-leg pants and jumpsuits.
The final piece was a jacket and skirt set with compressed leg-of-mutton sleeves, followed by an all-in-one consisting of a compressed wool and organza mix stole wrapped around the shoulders and compressed wool flared pants.
Regarding this show, Connie said, "I combined the opposing elements of digital aspects such as laser cutting with the analog aspects of hand knitting. I have a special attachment to Japan, having worked in Yoshiki Hishinuma's atelier. The techniques, materials, and venue were all new, just as the theme suggested."
Connie won the Mercedes-Benz Netherlands Fashion Award in 2011.
