On March 18th, alice auaa held its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection show at Shibuya Hikarie. Designer Yasutaka Funakoshi. The theme was Aragne, a weaver who transforms into a spider, a character from Dante's Divine Comedy and Ovid's Metamorphoses. The collection, typical of a goth brand, combined ruffles, lace, corsets, and long silhouettes with weaving-inspired pincushions, silk pins, thread, and arm covers. A frilly long dress featured a spider's web-like wire crinoline. A full-length coat dress featured a fully ruffled lining and a thin, low-gauge knit to resemble a spider's web. A balloon-shaped dress resembled a spider's limbs, and the pieces were crafted from a variety of materials, including velvet, fur, and down. New elements like leather and fur were also featured, along with realistic pieces like rider jackets, shorts, and knee-high boots. A considerable amount of lace and chiffon are inserted into the seams of the long dresses and long coats, showing the intricate details.
"It may look like a showpiece, but the brand's stance is to incorporate all of the looks into products. We always present shows with a story, and I think of this one as a gift to the people (customers) who share our worldview. This time, it was really difficult to create items using so much thread," said Funakoshi.
