[2013-2014 Autumn/Winter Tokyo Collection] "Ambell" crosses over classic with modern, masculine with feminine

Mar 20, 2013

On March 18th, AMBELL held an installation for its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Shibuya Hikarie. The designer was Bunzo Kado. The theme was "Crossover." Inspired by the work of photographer Mario Giacomelli, Kado explained, "I focused on how to make classical pieces modern and masculine pieces feminine." Sixteen coats, jackets, and dresses in dark tones such as black, gray, brown, and beige were displayed in a space covered with straw. The heads of the black mannequins were covered with white paper masks, highlighting the contrasts in Giacomelli's photographs. Using fabrics and patterns such as houndstooth and herringbone, the silhouettes and details of chester coats and tailored jackets were sharp and masculine. At the same time, the pocket flap design and waist positioning also created a feminine feel.

Since SS13, the brand has also been focusing on trench coats, and this time they have released a coat made from a high-density taffeta bonded fabric with a water-repellent, windproof, and sheer (glossy) outer surface.
