On March 18th, araisara presented its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Shibuya Hikarie. This season, marking the brand's first Tokyo collection in a year since ceasing participation in Paris Fashion Week, the theme was "Evolution and Creation." A powerful female figure was depicted on a bag featuring a live performance of "Vltava" from Smetana's symphonic poem cycle "My Country" by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. The collection pursues designs that combine traditional techniques with modern technology, including hand-printing, inkjet printing, and Japanese paintings by Kyoto yuzen artisans on Western clothing. Subtle dyes were subtly added to the collar, sides, and innerwear of the mannish jacket, a trend this season. Vivid prints were used on the sides of the asymmetrical jacket and the back of the black dress, which accentuates the body lines, symbolizing the fusion of opposing elements to create something new. Collages of various patterns and materials were also a distinctive feature. The floral pattern features cosmos flowers painted by a Kyo-Yuzen artisan in the image of Japanese painting.
"I designed the pieces before I decided to return to Tokyo Collection, and I think I would have presented the same things even if I had continued with Paris Collection. Right now, I'm filled with the desire to attract people from all over the world to Tokyo Collection. I don't know how long it will take, but I've found what I want to devote my life to," Arai said after the show.
