On March 21st, Johan Ku presented his 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Shibuya's live music venue WWW. The designer, Johan Ku, presented the collection under the theme "Anna." This season, marking his first show in a year, he abandoned the glow-in-the-dark designs that had been a huge hit in his previous collection and instead took on a new approach. His inspiration came from the captivating female figure of Anna, the protagonist of Louis Malle's film "Damage," who lives honestly and with a complex mix of emotions. Inspired by the film's plot, in which Anna ruins a man's life, the designer destroyed antique fabrics made around 20 years ago, which Johan, a character in the film, collects. The fabrics were then repurposed and used to create dresses. In addition to patchwork, the collection also featured a variety of fabrics, layering feminine elements onto menswear-style fabrics to create new images. The chunky knitwear that appears every season features complex structures such as cross stitch and twists, with subversive elements added.
After the show, Khoo commented, "Recently, many designers, including Alexander Wang, have been releasing glow-in-the-dark designs, and I wanted to try something new and move forward, so I didn't use phosphorescent materials this time. I'm not saying I'm quitting because other designers have done it, though (laughs)."
