G-tokyo 2013, a contemporary art fair featuring only the top galleries at the forefront of Japan's art scene, will be held at Tokyo Midtown on March 23rd and 24th. This marks the fourth time the fair has been held, and Yayoi Kusama's large-scale sculpture, which she collaborated on with Louis Vuitton last year, will make its first appearance at a domestic fair. New works by Kohei Nawa, who explores the possibilities of expression through new materials, and Matthew Darbyshire, who designed the ticket booth for Frieze Art Fair, will also be on display. Dan Vo, a Vietnamese-born artist who won last year's Hugo Boss Prize, will also be featured. Other collaborative projects are also planned. Jewelry from Parisian high jeweler BOUCHERON will be on special display at the venue, and a video work by artists selected from G-tokyo's participating galleries will be screened in the storefront of Australian natural skincare brand Aesop.
The venue for this event will be designed by Mount Fuji Architects Studio, a young architectural unit also active in the art field. The free-form space differs from the traditional booth format and is designed to allow visitors to get up close and personal with the artworks and enjoy dialogue with active gallerists and artists.
In addition, to coincide with the one-night-only art feast, "Roppongi Art Night," the venue hours will be extended until midnight on March 24th.
