Artist Kazuhito Sahara's exhibition "Though the Eyes Can't See It Clearly" opens on March 29th at Gallery Speak For in Daikanyama, Tokyo. The title of the exhibition is taken from the Kokin Wakashu (Collection of Ancient and Modern Poetry). Sahara says, "I have a consciousness that transforms things that are invisible to the eye but certainly exist, such as scents, tastes, sounds, touch, and even the mind and consciousness, into visible paintings through my paintbrush." This exhibition will feature previously unseen works, including paintings inspired by scents, as well as the Japanese debut of his "Motion Painting" series, which lies somewhere between painting and video. Approximately 25 large and small works will be on display and for sale, and a new book of works will also be released to coincide with the exhibition. Sahara will also hold a gallery talk on the 29th. Using water-soluble media such as watercolors and acrylics, Sahara creates paintings and videos that aim to bring out the beauty we overlook in everyday life on washi paper and cotton fabric. His distinctive style is the "tarashikomi" technique, which uses a generous amount of water. He has collaborated extensively both in Japan and abroad, including a solo exhibition at MUJI Café Shinjuku, a screening of his video works at LUMINE meets ART held at Lumine Yurakucho, and participation in a group exhibition in Sweden.
