Kirishima Rowland photographs 41 working women. Year-long art project by Wise and Isetan now underway

Mar 17, 2013

On the 13th, Kirishima Roland's personal appearance (PA) was held at the Isetan Shinjuku store, which had its grand opening on March 6th.

Isetan Shinjuku has adopted the concept of a "Fashion Museum" as part of its remodeling, and is attempting to combine fashion and art on each floor of its women's department. This PA was part of the "Women on the Move" art project by Isetan and Y's, which celebrated its 41st anniversary this year. Kirishima photographed 41 women wearing Y's clothing, and the photographs were exhibited in-store as artwork.

Regarding the fusion of fashion and art, Kirishima said, "Fashion is already becoming art. It's inevitable that fashion and art will merge." The first installment, the 2013 Spring/Summer season, features eight people: actresses Mari Natsuki and Ai Hashimoto, newscaster Chiaki Horan of Nippon Television's "NEWS ZERO," figure skater Fumie Murase, Ellie of Chim↑Pom, jazz orchestra composer Maria Schneider, flutist Kaoru Namba, and Paralympic long jump representative Natsumi Sato. Further installments are planned to feature actresses and artists such as Hisako Manda and Kavka Shishido. The 41st and final woman in the project has yet to be decided; applications will be open to women. "My mother (Yoko) has always told me since I was a child that the ultimate working woman is a 'full-time housewife' (laughs). Perhaps the 41st woman will be a full-time housewife," she said.
