Claudio Colucci exhibition "Coloristic!" to be held at Hillside Forum & Gallery in Daikanyama

Feb 12, 2013

Claudio Colucci, a designer based in France, Japan, and China, will be holding his "COLOURISTIC!" exhibition at Hillside Forum & Gallery in Daikanyama from March 5th to 10th. This is the largest color-themed exhibition ever held in Japan.

For Colucci, color represents human emotions and will, and is linked to the act of living. This exhibition, featuring a fantastical installation and colorful, innovative original furniture pieces from recent years, explores the potential of color, materials, and design for Japan's future clothing, food, and living environments. Colucci has lived in Japan and begun his design career 17 years ago. While he believes that modesty and refinement are virtues that Japan should be proud of, he also believes that in the future, it is also very important to express more individual emotions and will. This exhibition is imbued with the hope for the people of Japan that they will "survive and enjoy life in the future while expressing themselves more." Claudio Colucci was born in Locarno, Switzerland in 1965. He is half Swiss and half Italian. After graduating from the Graphic Design Department of the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Geneva, he studied industrial design at ENSCI-les Atelier in Paris and then studied design as an exchange student at Kingston Polytechnic College in London. He has been based in Tokyo since 1996 and established Claudio Colucci Design in 1998. His work spans a wide range of fields, including commercial spaces, displays, product design, installations, and art. He is renowned for his humorous design style, which combines dynamic curves, a unique sense of color, and the use of rich materials, as well as for creating high-quality spaces.

In addition, "Kaleidoscope" (4,800 yen), published to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the founding of Claudio Colucci Design TOKYO, is a book that brings together numerous works created over the past 20 years and is currently on sale at Daikanyama TSUTAYA Bookstore and TSUTAYA ROPPONGI HILLS. The book shows how Colucci has designed from a multifaceted perspective, coming into contact with various places and cultures around the world. A related event for "Kaleidoscope" will be held at TSUTAYA Daikanyama from February 19th to coincide with the "COLOURISTIC!" exhibition.
