The Lumine Shinjuku branch of New York-based restaurant Sarabeth's will be selling "Galette des Rois Pancakes" (1,680 yen excluding tax), a Sarabeth's-style pancake adaptation of the French New Year's baked pastry "Galette des Rois," from January 2nd to the 11th.


"Galette des Rois" is a traditional French pastry that means "king's cake" and is an essential part of New Year's celebrations. It is also well known in the United States as Pithivier. It is a folded pie pastry filled with almond cream and a small ceramic figurine called a "fève" inside. It is cut into pieces and eaten by families on New Year's Day, and it is said that the person who finds the fève is crowned and blessed, bringing good fortune for the year.

The "Galette des Rois Pancake," a special New Year's menu item available exclusively at the Lumine Shinjuku store, is an adaptation of the "Galette des Rois," created as a pancake sandwiching pie with "frangipane," a cream made from almond cream and custard.
