It has been announced that France-based PPR (Pinault Printemps Redoute) has acquired a 51% stake in Christopher Kane.
This marks the arrival of new talent to the PPR Group, the group behind Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney.
Kane, originally from Scotland, graduated from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. His 2006 graduate collection received rave reviews and led to the launch of his brand. Since then, he has worked closely with his sister Tammy to grow the business and become a prominent young British designer.
The brand began with women's ready-to-wear and expanded to menswear in 2010. Currently based in London with 26 employees, the brand has presented its collections at London Fashion Week. It is also known for its collaborations with Topshop and Shiseido's Maquillage. He was the designer of Versus under Donatella Versace until the Fall/Winter 2012 season.
PPR Chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault commented, "Christopher is an incredible talent, and although he has only been running his brand for a few years, he has built a brand with a unique DNA. I look forward to helping him grow his business into a global brand."
Kane said, "I look forward to partnering with PPR, which has built numerous luxury brands into global success, to help take the brand to the next level. They also understand my creative vision."
The PPR Group does business in over 120 countries. Listed on Euronext Paris, its holdings include brands such as Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Brioni, Stella McCartney, and Puma.
