JoJo window-jacks the world of Gucci! A truly eclectic collaboration

Jan 8, 2013

Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini, has collaborated with Hirohiko Araki, known for the manga "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" (JoJo). Inspired by Gucci's 2013 Cruise Collection, featuring Gucci's iconic "Flora" pattern, Araki's special manga will adorn the windows of Gucci stores worldwide. The project launched in Japan on the 8th. Giannini commented, "This is the most enjoyable collaboration I've ever had. Araki's manga is full of energy, sensuality, and irresistible charm, bringing my Cruise Collection to life in a fun and captivating way." Araki, on the other hand, said, "I've always loved Italian culture and art, and I'm honored to collaborate with Gucci, a brand that represents Italian tradition, design, and fashion. From the moment I saw Frida's beautiful collection, featuring vibrant colors and graphics, I was instantly inspired, and the characters and story flowed naturally. This project was a very stimulating collaboration." Araki's special manga, "Jolyne, Flying in Gucci," tells the story of Jolyne Kujo, who inherited her mother's Gucci collection as a keepsake. Lured by the mystique hidden within the vintage items, Jolyne embarks on a journey through time and space. She is the protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 6. She is the daughter of Jotaro Kujo, the protagonist of Part 3, and the sixth JoJo. "Jolyne, Flying in Gucci" features Bucciarati, a key character from Part 5, creating a dream collaboration not seen in the original work. This story is available as a supplement to the February 2013 issue of SPUR magazine. The cover of the February issue features a zipper-shaped sticker, which, when peeled off, reveals a large illustration of Jolyne. The sticker can be reapplied multiple times, so it won't go to waste! This is the second time that Gucci and Araki have collaborated on Shupur. The first issue was the October 2011 issue, which came with a special manga featuring Kishibe Rohan, a main character from Part 4, wearing Gucci. As with this issue, the special window display will also be featured in the windows of Gucci Shinjuku.

The special window display will be on display in over 70 Gucci stores worldwide from January to February. In Japan, it will begin on January 8th at Gucci Shinjuku, Gucci Ginza, Gucci Aoyama, Gucci Osaka, and the Sendai Fujisaki Gucci store, and will be rolled out to the JR Kyoto Isetan Gucci store and Gucci Nagoya. A multimedia campaign will be launched to coincide with the window design, including the above Shupur and the official Gucci Facebook page, as well as videos airing in stores and online.
