Maison Hermès in Ginza will host a new installation by "paramodel," a group that has garnered attention for its space-filling installations featuring toys like Plarail and miniature cars. The exhibition, "Para's Model / Our Castle in the Sky," will run from Saturday, February 16th to Monday, May 6th (national holiday). Admission is free.
Paramodel is an art unit formed in 2001 by Yasuhiko Hayashi and Yusuke Nakano. The unit's name, "Paramodel," is a combination of "para," a prefix suggesting words like parallel, paradox, parameter, parasite, and paradox, and "model," evocative of models and blueprints. It also serves as a keyword that embodies their creative philosophy.
This time, the two artists will use their respective methods to interpret the city and expand their fantasies within a glass-block building in the heart of Tokyo. From installations that endlessly model space to drawings that resemble castles in the sky that appear on temporary fencing, each artist's imagination is like a metaphysical game of modeling in the virtual space of the exhibition.
