On March 1st, Alessandro dell'Acqua's ROCHAS collection was held at the Palais de Tokyo for its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection. This season, the collection featured highly classic and authentic pieces, reinterpreted using the finest materials befitting a couture house. Inspired by the Italian aristocrat, art collector, and fashion icon Marella Agnelli, and founder Marcel Rochas' wife, Helene Rochas, the collection's bourgeois women of the time were given a modern twist. Some pieces also had a vintage feel. One particularly eye-catching feature was the "R" motif, inspired by the crest of a secret society. It was used as a luminous decoration on jackets and pumps in matte materials.
Masculine-feminine items, such as jackets with dignified silhouettes and wool tweed coats with puffy backs, feature straight sleeves that emphasize the linear silhouette. Pieces such as a double-faced angora virgin wool dress that is almost entirely hand-sewn, and a tapestry jacquard dress decorated with ribbon spangle embroidery, emphasize the straight lines while still giving off a feminine impression. Some dresses have open backs, adding a sexy element that is reminiscent of Europe.
The collection exudes a restrained atmosphere with its minimalist design and subdued colors, but the careful tailoring and beautiful materials and cuts make the clothes more captivating the more you look at them.
