FENDI presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's collection by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi. The collection's muse was a "heroine standing in the city at dawn." Fendi's signature "double F" was laid out like a grid on the runway, and models appeared like movie heroines gracefully strolling the streets of Rome. Their free spirit was embodied by a number of geometric graphics. Inspired by Viennese wooden blocks and 18th-century Italian domino paper, geometric patterns were given a modern makeover by Fendi artisans using the sophisticated mosaic techniques. Many elegant looks this season featured square shoulders and waist-high accents, adding feminine details. Herringbone jackets, long wool coats, and front-pleated patent leather coats were adorned with voluminous fur sleeves, accentuating their elegance. Coats with "X" marks on both ends of the waistline enhanced the outerwear's presence beyond its graphic effect.
In stark contrast to the warm color palette of camel and carmine red in the first half, cobalt and petal blue pieces accentuated the modern atmosphere in the middle. Balloon-sleeve shirts and dresses with bold slits dominated the feminine mood. The second half featured couture-inspired pieces, such as organza dresses and long chiffon dresses with floral embroidery, emphasizing soft silhouettes in contrast to geometric patterns. The Maison's craftsmanship was also evident throughout, with cut-out knitwear, inlaid fur, spirograph-like daisy graphics, and acanthus leaf-patterned silk fabrics. The red knee-high boots that were styled with almost every look, and the bags that appeared in a variety of variations, also attracted a lot of attention at the venue. Key pieces that adorned the collection included the new "Runaway" bag made of lamb leather with python inlay, as well as the "Peekaboo," "Baguette," and "Kan I" bags, which combined luxuriously decorated straps.
