Anrealage and Kohei Nawa collaborate to create clothing sculptures carved from rolls [2017-18 Fall/Winter Women's Collection]

Mar 7, 2017

Kunihiko Morinaga's ANREALAGE presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection on February 28th in the ballroom of the Westin Paris Hotel. Under the theme of "ROLL," the collection focused on the roll of fabric, the starting point for clothing. The first two main pieces, a collaboration with Kohei Nawa | SANDWICH, were created by cutting 300 meters of denim fabric while it was still in its roll form, using a robotic arm equipped with a drill to carve each garment like a sculpture. The traces of the cutting process evoke the texture of tree rings, and the layering of fabric evokes the passage of time, which became the motif throughout the collection. Dresses wrapped in multiple ribbon tapes, dresses with tree rings made of hand-knitted knits, and geometric jacquard dresses reminiscent of tree rings all complemented the 1930s-inspired hairstyles for an elegant finish. One dress, made of fabric joined together in a spiral bias, was also decorated with denim and connected with a zipper, making use of each individual idea.

A dress made of ribbon-like fabric with serger stitching layered like tree rings, and another dress made of felt material layered like contour lines were also introduced, showcasing overwhelming sculptural beauty. This collection showed a new dimension for ANREALAGE.
